In 2009, the Centre for Health Advancement funded researchers from the George Institute and Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute - Professor Stephen Lord, Associate Professor Jacqueline Close and Dr Cathie Sherrington, -to conduct a project on the Characteristics of NSW Area Health Service Physical Activity Falls Prevention Programs. This projectsought to characterise the content and delivery of community-based physical activity programs which have falls prevention as one of their objectives, and are funded, supported or promoted through a NSW Area Health Service.

A key recommendation was that a web based directory of falls prevention physical activity programs be developed. The NSW Department of Health accepted this recommendation and development of the web based directory was commissioned. This directory will assist health consumers and professionals to find physical activity programs in their local area. The directory site will also be used to promote evidence based practice and assist health consumers to choose a program that best meets their needs.
