Program Details
Nia dance fitness classes are held at the Avalon Recreation Centre on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Nia is a blend of nine movement forms including dance, tai chi and yoga and the core philosophy is to encourage people to "feel better" when they exercise.
Nia allows you to move at your own pace. No-one is pushing you to work harder, improve performance or force any movement. The movements are simple and repetitive on purpose, designed to stimulate the brain, relax and condition the body and bring up feelings of pleasure, connection and joy.
The class slows down to finish with yoga-like stretches and some floor play. During class, students are encouraged to let their bodies take the lead, vocalise their movements, have fun and really make the dance their own.
Nia encourages a fun fitness practice that is good for mental health, brain health, flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and stability with regular practice.
All fitness levels and beginners are welcome. Mandy is a trauma sensitve Nia teacher and offers a safe space for moving, self expression and connection to community.
