Program details
Hydrotherapy has shown that when participating in chest-depth water individuals only bear approximately 25-40% of their body weight. This significantly lowers joint load and pain during movement. It has shown to also improve lower-limb strength by approximately 19-31% in people with joint or mobility issues over 8-12 weeks.
With this information in mind, our hydrotherapy programs utilise individualised exercise plans to reduce joint pain and improve global muscle strength to allow for greater improvements in land-based activities with less limitations.
For those wishing to participate in hydrotherapy, you will first, come into our clinic for a one-to-one initial consult with one of our friendly practitioners. They will attain a comprehensive health history and complete a whole-body screening to identify current key physical areas of focus. From this our practitioner will develop a personilsed hydrotherapy exercise plan and program tailored to your results and discussion attained during the initial consult.
You will then meet our practitioner at Linda's Learn to Swim where the hydrotherapy session is conducted. They will run you through your program from either the side of the pool or if needed will support you for the first several sessions from within the pool.
Sessions run for approximately 45 minutes, two times per week. We advise arriving 5 to 10 minutes prior to the session to allow for time to change clothes and to shower prior to entering the water. This allows for effective time utilisation of the pool and the ability to get the most out of your session.
Sessions are capped at 8 participants, this is to ensure safety and that monitoring of exericse and progression is of a high standard.
