Program details
Move For Life is an Exercise Physiologist-led small-group exercise program for adults aged 50+ who want to build strength, improve balance and feel more confident with everyday movement.
Classes include progressive resistance training, balance, mobility and functional exercises using gym equipment such as resistance machines and free weights. Exercises are individually tailored and progressed based on each participants ability, health needs and goals.
All participants complete an individual Exercise Physiology Initial Assessment before joining the group to assess strength, balance, function and suitability. If the group is not the most appropriate option, supervised one-on-one Exercise Physiology sessions can be recommended instead.
Classes are limited to a maximum of 6 participants, allowing the Exercise Physiologist to provide individual guidance and progression within the group. No previous gym experience is required.
Each class runs for approximately 45 minutes, with three classes available each week at Move 2 Thrive Clinic inside Plus Fitness St Marys.
Opening hours:
- Wednesdays, 5:30 pm.
- Fridays, 10:30 am & 5:30 pm.
Cost:
$30 per class. An individual Exercise Physiology Initial Assessment is required before joining Move For Life. Initial Assessments are $90 for 30 minutes or $130 for 45 minutes, depending on clinical needs.
Private health rebates may be available for the Initial Assessment and group classes depending on your insurer and level of cover. Medicare rebates may also be available for eligible participants with an appropriate GP referral.
Target age:
50 Plus
Participants who would not be suitable for the program:
All participants complete Move 2 Thrives standard individual Exercise Physiology Initial Assessment before joining Move For Life. This allows the Exercise Physiologist to assess health history, current strength, balance, exercise capacity, goals and suitability for a group setting.
Move For Life is limited to a maximum of 6 participants per class so exercises can be individually prescribed, supervised and progressed.
The group may not be suitable for people with unstable or acute medical conditions, new or unexplained symptoms requiring medical review, or those who require a level of individual supervision or assistance that cannot be safely provided within a small-group setting.
People who use a walking aid, live with a chronic health condition or have reduced balance are not automatically excluded. Suitability is assessed individually.
If the group is not the most appropriate option, supervised one-on-one Exercise Physiology sessions can be recommended instead.
