"I am definitely not a gym junkie, in fact it's tempting to stay in bed, but once you get there you realise it is all worthwhile. I am going to continue being active and engaged for as long as I can."

I had polio during the epidemic in 1953. I was paralysed from the waist down for 3 months. I have been lucky in that I just have a slight limp, however with one leg being shorter than the other, balance can be an issue for me and I can trip over easily.
I have been attending the gym/pool for 8 or 9 years now and I attend classes almost every day. I find I am tripping over less, plus the weights and balance components of my strong seniors exercise class are really helpful. I also mix it up a bit and do aquarobics and yoga which are great for balance, stretches and a general feeling of calm and wellbeing.

My advice to others: The camaraderie of being in a class motivates me, as seeing people in their eighties keeping fit and healthy is fantastic and inspirational. Use it or lose it, is so true. I am going to continue being active and engaged for as long as I can.
